Having A Clean Water Tank
For houses these days, water heating is the second largest energy consumer after space heating. Therefore, it is important to ensure that your water heater is operating efficiently. Trying to improve the performance of the storage tanks of water heaters, things can be done that include standard electric tank units naturally vented, power vented and direct vented natural gas, propane, oil fired units, heat pump units and solar water heater units.
Make sure you are able to reduce the temperature setting of the water heater. In times when water is not heated, the storage tanks losses heat to its surroundings. Here people should reduce the temperature setting so that a reduction in the amount of heat lost from the tank between uses will occur. For more information on water tanks check out Concrete Water Tanks.
Bacterial growth should be eliminates which means the temperature in the storage tank should not be lower than 50 to 55 degrees Celsius for gas fired units and 55 to 60 Celsius for electrically powered units. Also, Add tank insulation. Reducing the heat loss will help if you install additional insulation to the tank. At the same time you want to remember not to add insulation to a water heater that is fuelled by oil.
Another thing you have to do is to replace the anode rod. Another thing you have to know is that storage tanks require a device called an anode rod to prevent it from corroding. These days water heater technology also includes cold water supply tubes that act as anode rods.
Also, you have to make sure that you clean the inside of the tank. As much as you use it sediment from the intentional breakdown of the anode rod and from minerals in the water supply collect at the bottom of water heater tanks. With this the sediment reduces the efficiency of the water heater and may cause the water heater to wear out prematurely. More resources on water tanks can be found here at Underground Water Tank.
Leaving this behind will create the potential to promote the unhealthy growth of bacteria. It is always advised that other types of water heaters are cleaned out every six to 12 months.
Always be sure to have the water heater inspected. What an inspection is for is the identification of the condition of the burners and heat transfer surfaces in fuel fired water heaters. Always know that minus that inspection you are allowing dirty burners and heat transfer surfaces to reduce the performance of the water heater.
One thing that is important too is that you check the temperature and pressure relief valve. Mainly, the temperature and pressure relief valve on tank type water heaters is a safety feature designed to prevent catastrophic failures of the water heater. The valve is active when either the temperature or pressure in the tank exceeds certain limits.
With these valves not used all the time so it is common for them to stick closed, increasing the severity of problems that could arise if the water heater should fail. In order for you to reduce heat loss from the tank, install the water heater on a piece of plywood over rigid insulation.
