2 Water Sports One Should Try out This Summer
You can spend one day trying wakeboarding and water skiing even if you're not a professional as long as you have tutors to help you. You will need to balance yourself, and get a person to drive a tow boat while you ride behind it. Thank goodness, there are lots of destinations that include instructional classes for you to learn in under a day. You'll notice that many starters that learn how to wake board or water ski in half a day.
What is Water skiing?
As the name indicates, you'll hop onto a set of skis and navigate over the water in them. The Skis for water skiing aren't the same as those used on snow. You will be skimming the surface of the water while balancing yourself while holding the cables attached to the tow boat.
There are some people who use only one ski rather than a pair of skis. This is a technique best left to the pros. Some water ski enthusiasts move on to win medals in competitions.
What is Wakeboarding?
Wakeboarding is relatively new compared to surfing which has been around for a long time. It was accidentally discovered by several surfers who tried using modified surfboards instead of skis for water skiing. Wakeboarding quickly became mainstream with equipment designs made for the sport and its fans. The idea is to “surf” in the wake of a special tow boat.
The board for wakeboarding is rectangle shaped and smaller than a surfboard. The wake board resembles a skateboard in some way. The bottom is not flat but rounded in order to skim the surface of the water more effectively. Fins may also be attached under the board. Safety Gear
You will need to wear a helmet and pads for knees and elbows when you go wakeboarding or skiing on water. The water may seem soft, but hitting the surface of the water at a high speed can cause bodily damage like hitting a cemented pavement. Equipment that can cover the arms and the legs are also needed.
A different person, not counting the driver must be in the boat while you're wakeboarding or skiing. A spotter is an essential part of the team. The driver cannot keep looking back to check on the rider. Even when the rider is a professional, there should be someone there looking out for him. The spotter can be the one who signals the rider if there is a problem and the boat needs to slow down.
