Call Of Duty Games, Before We Have To Fork Out Another 70 Dollars
What is the problem with Call of Duty games? Not much. But there is a but. And when there is a but there is something wrong. The way I see it MW3 is way too short. You can be done it in around 20 hours, probably less.
Skyrim, for example is really an FPS game when you biol it down, combined of course with RPG, but you will play many more hours, around 200 of them on just the main story line.
And because of its free roaming capability, and advanced AI that gives real life and randomness to NPCs, you have thousands of hours of game play waiting for you, and it is a bit cheaper than Call of Duty games.
Plus, no matter where you go, there is always something to do in Skyrim, which has nothing to do with the story line.
The truth? Call of Duty games are getting shorter and shorter. I think the phenomenal success of the Modern Warfare series has pushed the developers to think more about money than the player. How much different MW 3 is from MW 2? Not much.
The makers of Skyrim have put out a truly innovative game building upon its predecessor: Oblivion. So why haven't they done this for MW3? I think I know why.
First off there are two kinds of games. One is an alley game, the other is an Island game. Call of Duty games are alley games. The boundaries in alley games are close, very close. In this case the player is led down a certain constrained path.
Boundaries are not immediately perceptible in Island games, and are often referred to as sandbox games, popular for RPGs. You could walk all day and not really know where one boundary begins and another one ends.
What do I mean? I think it would be really cool if future games like MW were created like an Island game, to give the player more play time hours. It is obvious that multi-player and survival mode, is were the hours of play time can be found in Call of Duty.
But what I’m getting at is having an FPS game that empowers the player more, so the player can determine the way the game will evolve. Maybe you could call it a cross-genre RPS. Expanding the boundaries would be great, and it doesn't have to be RPG, but you would be able to build on your combat skills.
Don’t get me wrong. I know that alley style games heighten the drama of the game play, and I love MW 2 and 3. I think they are the best FPS games out there. I just think it is time to start thinking outside the box for once, before we have to fork out another 70 dollars.
In the end I prefer to play Skyrim, as its combat mode is still FPS. But still get the Call of Duty games, they are a lot of fun, and make sure you get Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2, and 3.
