Find Out Essential Facts About Radar Detectors

Are you tired of getting speeding tickets on a regular basis and think about getting a cobra radar detector. If that is the case, you should know a little bit more about radar detection devices and how they work, and also the latest technology police are using to catch speeders.

Basically a radar detector is a device which allows you to find out if the vehicle in which the radar detector is installed is being tracked with the radio waves which are being pointed at it from a radar gun, which is the device most police forces use to track vehicle speed. Radar guns work by using radio signals that are sent from the radar gun towards your car and the signals bounce off and back to the gun, recording the amount of time to be received. If your car isn't moving, then the signals will of course come back at the exact same speed they were sent. If you are moving they come back at a faster rate, and this can be measured to gauge exactly how fast you are traveling. Simple physics, but pretty accurate in most cases.

So what factors would be important when selecting a radar detector? Well first of all not all are built the same. Some are more accurate, some are more portable, and some are cordless for quick removal. The corded models are a bit bulkier, but also afford a bit more advance warning since they have a longer range than the cordless variety. Either way, when you are encountered by a radar gun that is tracking your car, you will either get an audible “beep” or a visual light signal that lets you know about it so you can take action and slow down. The problem is, often by the time you get the signal it may already be too late. Observation of the cars around you can help, so a radar detector is only a tool in the drivers toolbox, not the perfect weapon against traffic tickets.

There is another type of radar signal that most basic radar detector cheapest aren’t even able to read, and that is laser signals. Yes, the newer guns that police use are actually using something called LIDAR, which stands for Light Detection And Ranging, to gauge a cars speed. These guns cannot be detected by standard radar detectors, so you may need to get what’s called a “jammer” to fully protect yourself. These are illegal in most states though, so if you’re caught using one be ready for a hefty fine.

Another thing to consider is that even a standard radar detector won’t smell out the police radar if their radar gun is not currently on active status. The newer LIDAR guns are “instant on” devices, so you can be cruising down the highway and suddenly get a hit from your radar detector, only a few hundred feet from a standing police officer with gun in hand. So really, even if you have a radar detector it’s best to keep your speed down and not rely on it too heavily. It may save you a ticket or two, but if you disregard speeding laws sooner or later you may have to pay.

The CONSERT radar will perform a tomography of the nucleus by measuring electromagnetic wave propagation from the Philae lander and the Rosetta orbiter throughout the comet nucleus in order to determine its internal structures and to deduce information on its composition. The lander and orbiter electronics was provided by France and both antennas were constructed in Germany. The experiment was designed and built in France by Laboratoire de Planétologie de Grenoble (LPG) and by Service d'Aéronomie in Paris, in Germany by Max Planck Institut of Aeronomy (MPAE and now MPS) in Lindau/Katlenburg. The Principal Investigator of CONSERT is Dr. Wlodek Kofman (LPG), Director of Research at CNRS. Scientific objectives The scientific objectives of the CONSERT experiment are the determination of the main dielectric properties and, through modelling, to set constraints on the cometary composition (materials, porosity, etc.), to detect large size structures (several tens of meters) and stratification, to detect and characterise small scale irregularities
