Attention Book Publishers... eBook Conversion Service Is No Worries...

Print publishers pack the halls of electronic book conversion conventions anxious to learn the wonder of this new art. Truth is, e-Book conversion is a no-brainer. What is not is ways to essentially earn cash from eBooks.

I've seen this occur before, most particularly with singer/songwriters and authors. The former publishes their music on iTunes. "Hey, its real now," they assert with a feeling of accomplishment. However, nothing happens.

Do it alone authors do the same, posting their books to Amazon. Its real, its for sale, however, nothing occurs. Why? Because making something ready for sale doesn't equate to actual sales. It's what I call the... "If you build it they'll come delusion. Sorry, all. The "Field of Dreams," though a wonderful, feel good picture, has no place in fact.

You now have the ability to see why the print publishing industry's current fascination with e-book conversion is a been there done that moment for me. Whats wierd is that they know better. They know that book sales are an obvious result of tried and true promotions. Yet the mystique of the new paradigm of eBook publishing leads the lion's share to (reach|come to|make} hyperbolic inferences, that the eBook world is somehow a different world.

Once the conversion fixation is seen for what it is, a relative no brainer, the cloak of illusion is no longer there, revealing that eBooks need the same promotional ability as do conventional books.

The base line. Nothing really occurs if there is no promotion. So do not be overly concerned the small things like ebook conversion. It only disguises the real issue, that book publishers, largely stuck in the 20th century, {lack the promotional talents vital to moving product in the new paradigm. Namely, web-based marketing skills.

Standard print publishers have been mum in the face of two recent and definite developments.

Go-it-alone eBook authors like John Locke and Amanda Hocking, both who have sold over one million items of their electronic books on Amazon, have proved to the chagrin of conventional publications that they just do not need a publishing deal. And who could argue with that? The money speaks for itself.

The price of eBooks, anywhere from free to appx. 3 bucks, has fully disturbed traditional pricing schemes, leaving no space for conventional print publishers who are encumbered with costs and overhead for which rogue go it alone aren't.

But the situation for book publishers isnt as atrocious as it seems. After understanding that the pricing of the e-Book market has been interrupted by self-publishers, a sweet spot is exposed at a higher tier, namely Multi media eBook publishing.

And here's why.

MultiMedia eBooks enjoy higher pricing parameters, permitting book publishers a workable entry point to re-establish their credibility and worth.

Very few self-published authors possess the resources, monetary or alternatively, to supply prime quality Multi media eBooks.

MultiMedia eBook with self-contained video

Sounds great, but how?

I believe some book publishers will choose to go it alone by boning up on the skills and resources essential to making MultiMedia eBooks. To those who do, best of luck.

But a much less expensive and dodgy offer would be to form alliances with corporations that already possess the required expertise. Likely suspects are music publishers, video archivists, and corporations specializing in Multi Media eBooks production and promotional services.

For first to market points to consider, book publishers would be best served by leveraging their existing back catalogue instead of creating net new Multi media eBooks from scratch. Not only will this plan of action afford speed to market, and also adapts well to leveraging existing Multimedia assets, effectively breathing new life into them without incurring extra costs of making fresh ones.

Then again, I imagine book publishers can continue to sit on the sidelines with the hope that one day the e-book market will stabilize at a way higher price point . But I wouldnt bet on it. Whats more, a sector that takes a do nothing and see approach is by definition, not in the market. Such is the case of the book publishing industry today. It just cant last. The clock's ticking.
