When Should I Stop Feeling Guilty Over My Breakup?

You've been dumped. Being the one left behind while the person you love goes on to live a life without you in it hurts.. You're the one who was wronged in this situation. So, why do you feel so guilty over your breakup and when are you going to stop?

Guilt is one of the emotions most people associate with breakups. Oddly enough it isn't the person who did the dumping that feels the greatest degree of guilt – at least not statistically speaking – over the breakup. Most of the time, it's the one who was left behind.

Part of the reason is that the person ending the relationship feels justified in that decision. He feels that there was a compelling reason to walk away. But the one who was left behind doesn't have that luxury. There's a LOT going on mentally. There are a lot of question marks. There's a lot of guilt.

But you don't have to be overburdened with guilt after your breakup. There's no need for it. No one in the relationship was perfect or blameless. At the same time, no one in the relationship bears all the fault. It belongs to both of you to some degree.

You may have made mistakes. You might have driven your partner up a wall with some of your habits. But that doesn't mean you and you alone are to blame for what's gone wrong.

Let go of the guilt or the feeling that it was all your fault things didn't work out. Here is one key point to remind you that even if you're the one your ex is blaming, it couldn't possibly be completely your fault.

You Can't Be Responsible for What You do not Know

You can't be responsible for not giving your ex something he didn't tell you he needed. He bears the responsibility for not telling you what it is that he needed from you.
