WHO’D LEFT A BABY ON HER DOORSTEP? And what was solitary, small-town schoolteacher Megan Cahill to do? Naturally, she’d nurture the abandoned infant. But she’d need the police to help locate the real mom…before the tiny mite wiggled its way into her empty heart. Trouble was, the handsome lawman Megan summoned proved to be her ex-husband—the once-beloved man who’d shattered her most cherished dreams. Worse, working closely with Jake, watching his muscular arms cradle the precious infant, evoked powerful, passionate longings for the love they’d lost. But could one sweet baby heal their painful past and forge them a new future—as a family—forever?

Online Degrees - Can Get You On Your Way To Success

The last several years weren’t exactly kind to the aerospace industry. Decreased orders of jets and Obama’s cuts at NASA have given the industry a pair of black eyes. At the same time, this may be the best time for a student to consider a career as an aerospace engineer.

There once was a time when aerospace was a truly prestigious industry. The U.S. space program had put men on the moon and was looking at Mars. Supersonic planes were crossing the globe and the armed services wanted the latest tech for their fighters. These days, the military is still spending on research, but the rest has dried up except for overseas.

Not that the occupation was ever an easy one to study for. Those wanting to join must have strong grades in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) disciplines, as well as excellent written, oral and management skills. The undergraduate program includes classes in advanced mathematics, mechanical and electrical engineering, physics, chemistry and material management.

From there, recruiters looked for the top engineering grads. After getting that job, it was then time to consider enrolling in an online college to work on one’s master’s program. There they would take the more specialized classes so they could become true rocket scientists…or at least engineers.

Still, it looks like the bottom of the valley has been reached, partially from a totally unexpected source. As it happens, the car industry is hiring because aerospace engineering principles work well on making cars more energy efficient. Some of the same principles that got a rocket to the moon can save on gas.

The most recent report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics is also making another interesting point. As of 2009, the U.S. employs about 65,000 aerospace engineers. The growth rate is also only expected to be about 3% over the next decade. What’s interesting is the Bureau projects the number of engineers coming out of school will not match the number that are retiring. As such, the government agency expects a shortage to start developing by 2012. In other words, a student starting in 2010 will graduate two years into the shortage, i.e. 2014.

As of right now, there are also a lot of other good reasons to pursue a career in aerospace engineering. The average salary for one working for one government agency or another is approximately $108,000 with highly attractive benefits package. The Bureau reports the top 10% of the occupation earns on the average $135,000. This makes the specialty one of the best paying ones in the engineering field.

So, yes, the aerospace field is currently taking its lumps. At the same time, with the armed services, the coming of the automotive industry, and for that matter employment overseas, the long term picture has its share of promise…at least enough for a young student out of high school to still think about enrolling in online school programs for their engineering degree. So while the occupation may not be looking great to someone just starting their education, it could be very different by graduation time.
