The Best Way To Mate Bearded Dragons

You will need to think about a range of elements when opting to breed bearded dragons. To deliver females into heat, it is essential to simulate the seasonal changes that are encountered in nature (this is called pre-conditioning). Prior to opting to start this pre conditioning both male and female bearded dragons should be in optimal health and at the proper age for mating. In addition we will talk more about bearded dragon care.

The first step simulates winter time and is called the photo-period. Your ultraviolet light will have to be on a timers and it should be set so that there is fourteen hours of darkness and ten hours of light. The heat in the enclosure should be reduced slightly. For the area where they are usually basking a temperature of around 78 degrees Fahrenheit should be the maximum; for other areas the temperature should be maintained between 64 to 67 degrees. While simulating the photo period, the amount of food that is provided should be reduced. The photo-period usually lasts around 6 weeks after which you can resume the normal lighting schedule which is 12 hours of light and 12 hours of darkness.

When the photo-period has come to an end you will have to give supplemental food and wherever possible their diet should include foods that are high in fat such as wax worms. This is critical and it puts them in a mating cycle, helping them to gain weight.

Four weeks after the photo-period the separation of the two sexes should be stopped. If there are multiple pairs in the same tank, you might see the males becoming belligerent to each other; this can lead to fighting. Submissiveness may be shown by females. You may detect that they bob their heads slowly and waved their arms. A fertile female will begin mapping out a soft, sunny area to lay her eggs. You'll be able to furnish such an environment for the female with a mixture of sand and soil. Pregnancy will make it much less difficult for you to tell their genders apart.

When the female has laid her eggs you will have to make note of the spot. When she moves on, remove the eggs with a spoon. It is highly important that you do not to rotate the eggs when shifting them. Although a store bought incubator is less difficult to make use of and has a better hatch rate, it is possible to build an incubator at home. The incubator temperate should be at eighty five degrees Fahrenheit and should not vary much. You will need to incubate eggs in a moist environment, so put a small, open water dish at the bottom of your incubator. You will need to also mist the eggs with water to keep the eggs moist. The next thing for us to delve into is baby bearded dragon care.

Hatching time can take up to 24 hours, commence to finish. Ahead of the eggs start to hatch you may detect that parts of the shell collapses. Baby dragons can be placed in a rearing tank as soon as they are born. Hatchlings in essence never want to stop eating, and you will need to feed them enough times all through the day or they will even commence to eat their own tails. There are some lizards whose tails grow back, not bearded dragons. Wax worms as well as tiny crickets are what should make up their diet. The food that they are provided must never be too large as this can lead to them to become ill or even kill them. It is crucial that you make certain that the little bits of food are only as large as the space between their eyes. They have to be fed at least three times daily until they are 4 months old. After 4 months their mealtime can be reduced to one time per day. Worms, flowers, and crickets should be included as a regular part of their diet.
